Good morning,
Is there a method to create a new program that will keep similar welds to my previous?
Initially starting with a work piece that is 38ft (11.5m) long. The welds and directions, manipulator orientations and angles I would like to keep. The only thing changing is the length of the work piece (from 38 to 33, 34, and so on.)
Thank you all.
Regards,
Miguel B.
Hi,
Are you using Visual Components OLP?
If so, you should look into using feature templates. There is an explanation in the help file (opened with the Help button in the help tab) if you search for “feature template”.

Good morning Zachary,
To clarify. Yes, I am using Visual Components Robotics OLP 4.8.
I apologize as I am fairly new and have not had official training with VC, but have experience with other robot offline programming.
I do have some manipulator templates (keeps the arm orientation the same for similar welds) in VC that I use. Is that what you were referring to by templates?
Had no luck with the feature template search in help.
However, I did insert the new model in a working program, hid the old model, and go back to touch up anything that may seem off. “Repicking” the welds to the new model seems to be working so far. Just have to wait and see how it runs in the cell.
I greatly appreciate your reply and suggestions! Thank you

Miguel B.
Hi Miguel,
Repicking the welds and using weld templates (the templates you create in the DB tab) is a good solution. Depending on the number of welds this is the easiest solution.
What I was talking about are “feature templates” which allow you to copy multiple paths to another workpiece of the same shape (but can be of different size). It can be a little difficult to use, so if what you’re doing works and doesn’t take that much time I would just continue with that.
Details here if you’re interested.
