The Painting functionality doesn’t really work with dynamic components (components which are created during simulation). I think there are some hacky workarounds, but generally you should just do the painting on static components, which you also need to prepare for painting using command for it in the Paint tab.
The VC OLP painting features are bit different but use the same framework, so I expect they have same general limitation too.
