Hello! I’m trying to import a CAD layout where it has been exported to .easm, .igs, and .STEP files. Upon importing the 3D layout into VC, it keeps saying that it is an unsupported CAD file, even though on VC’s website it says .igs & .STEP files are supported.
Essentially I’m doing the following:
Home > Geometry > Select my file from the local drive > Open > Import
Then is gives me the error " Please submit a supported CAD file"
This feels very straight forward, so I’m hoping someone can help out. Thank you!
Hard to tell without having the file. Have you tried opening the files in CAD software like Solidworks etc? Maybe your CAD files are the problem, but if they open no problem in CAD software we could rule out that possibility.
There’s a small snippet on the help file on “supported CAD files” when you scroll down:
Export to STEP uses AP 242 edition 3 and exports tessellated data. It does not export mathematical data. Be aware when importing an exported STEP file in other CAD systems you might encounter some issues. For example, some CAD systems like Solid Edge try to import STEP files using mathematical data. And some CAD systems do not support or partially support AP 242.
Makes sense.. I saw that footnote and followed those instructions. It’s still not working for the .igs files and it pops up perfectly fine on other viewers
